Jesse Benson Finnegan Memorial Scholarship Award Presentation 2020

The 2020 Jesse Benson Finnegan Memorial Scholarship Award

The Jesse Benson Finnegan Scholarship Fund was established at the Community Foundation of Greene County in 2016 by George R. (Bob) Finnegan in Jesse’s memory.

Jesse Michael Benson Finnegan was born in Glen Dale WV in 1996, the son of Denise Ann Benson. He was raised in Wind Ridge by Denise and his step-father, Bob Finnegan - the only father he knew.  Jesse, a student at West Greene High School, was a member of the Vo-Ag department and attended the Greene County Career & Technology Center where he applied his extensive math skills learning the electrician trade. Sadly, Jesse's life was cut short by a traffic accident during his senior year of high school.

Knowing how much Jesse loved his community, the family established a scholarship in his memory at the Community Foundation of Greene County - to be able to give back and help other students further their careers. The scholarship is for a student graduating from Career & Technology Center, with preference for a student completing the electrical occupations course of study, to pursue post-secondary education at a 2- or 4-year college/university, technical school or business school.

The recipient of the 2020 Jesse Benson Finnegan Memorial Scholarship is MARI ROSE BOWDEN.  Congratulations to Mari Rose and our sincere wish for a successful future.  Mari Rose is planning to attend Waynesburg University as a Nursing student.
